SKIN DISCOLORATION

Before rushing to get your eyes checked, you may have a skin condition known as hyperpigmentation. Hyperpigmentation is a common, harmless condition in which areas of skin turn darker in color than the normal surrounding skin.

Melanocytes are the cells found in the surface of the skin that produce melanin. Melanin is the pigment responsible for our skin, eyes, and hair color.  It’s purpose is to protect the deeper layers of the skin to prevent damage to the DNA of the cell. When exposed to UV-rays, an increase in melanin occurs and is able to be seen as SPOTS or discoloration.

There are a number of factors that contribute to skin discoloration.  From genetics to hormones, lifestyle, and sun exposure we have solutions. We are able to use functional medicine to interrupt and prevent future concerns with your discoloration.
